5 Minutes with Mrs Grace
Q: Who is Mrs. Grace?
My name is Grace Choi, and at A Little Bite Studio, our students affectionately call me Mrs. Grace. I like to think of myself as a Creative Artist—I create art, teach art, and leave traces of art wherever I go! I'm also a proud mother to my son Aiden and a devoted wife to my loving husband. My passion for art has been a lifelong journey.
Q: If you were a colour, what would you be?
A: Pink, absolutely! It's vibrant, bold, and full of life—just like Mrs Grace!
Q: What do you love?
A: Oh, so many things! I love losing myself in the swirls of paint on canvas and, of course, indulging in a perfectly brewed cup of coffee. But most of all, I love inspiring little and big creatives with my art and passion.
Q: What inspires you?
A: Stories! I find inspiration in the unique narratives and experiences that shape our lives.
Q: Describe your art in three words.
A: Graceful, minimal, and filled with love! My art is a reflection of my soul, a delicate dance of form and emotion that speaks volumes without saying a word.
Q: Who are your clients, and what is the most interesting project you've done?
A: Outside of A Little Bite Studio, I've worked with all kinds of people, from weddings to fancy fashion events. One really fun thing I got to do was draw live portraits at a big fashion show—it was a blast! I've also teamed up with big names like Harper's BAZAAR, Carolina Herrera, Fendi, Prada, and more. These experiences have been super cool and inspiring, especially when I get to share them with my students at the studio. It shows them that with a little creativity and hard work, anything is possible!
Q: What is the best part about teaching art?
A: The best part is seeing the big smiles and excitement on my students' faces when they make something amazing. Whether they're just starting out or have been drawing for years, watching them express themselves through art is incredibly rewarding. It's like watching a flower bloom—it's beautiful and fills my heart with joy.
Q: What would be your top tip for kids who want to be like you one day?
A: My advice is to have fun and not be afraid to try new things. Art is all about exploring and being creative. So, grab a pencil, some paper, and let your imagination run wild! Don't worry about making mistakes—every artist learns and grows with practice.
Q: What led you to establish A Little Bite Studio?
A: A Little Bite Studio is a dream come true for me. I've always loved art and wanted to share that passion with others. Seeing how much joy and inspiration art brings to people, I knew I had to create a place where everyone could come together to learn and create. That's how A Little Bite Studio was born—a beauitful, inspiring space!
Q: Can you tell us about a particularly memorable project or moment in your career?
A: One of the most memorable moments was when I got to draw live portraits at my first big brand event. It was amazing to see people's reactions as I brought their portraits to life right before their eyes. Each stroke of my pencil felt like magic, capturing the essence of each person in a unique way. It was a moment I'll never forget.
Q: What do you hope students take away from their experience at A Little Bite Studio?
A: I hope every student leaves feeling inspired and confident in their creative abilities. Whether they become professional artists or just enjoy making art for fun, I want them to know that their creativity matters and has the power to make a difference in the world. Art is more than just pretty pictures—it's a way to express yourself and connect with others on a deeper level.
Q: How do you approach teaching art to students of different ages and skill levels?
A: Teaching art is all about meeting students where they are and helping them grow. For younger kids, we focus on exploring different materials and having fun with art. As students get older and more experienced, we dive deeper into techniques and styles, challenging them to push their creative boundaries. No matter their age or skill level, I believe everyone has the ability to create something amazing.
Q: Can you share a bit about the creative process behind your live portrait illustrations?
A: Creating live portraits is an exciting and fast-paced experience. I start by observing my subject and capturing their likeness with quick, confident strokes. It's all about capturing their personality and essence in a short amount of time. Each portrait is a unique challenge, but it's incredibly rewarding to see the smiles on people's faces when they see themselves brought to life on paper.
Q: What role do you believe art plays in society, especially in today's world?
A: Art is like a window into the soul—it helps us understand ourselves and the world around us in a deeper way. In today's busy world, art provides a much-needed escape and a way to express our thoughts and emotions. It brings people together, sparks conversations, and inspires change. Whether it's a painting, a song, or a dance, art has the power to touch hearts and change lives.
Q: What advice do you have for aspiring artists?
A: My advice is simple: keep creating and never give up on your dreams. Art is a journey, not a destination, so enjoy the ride and don't be afraid to take risks. Learn from your mistakes and keep pushing yourself to try new things. And most importantly, believe in yourself and your abilities. With hard work and dedication, anything is possible.
